Saddlebag Scrape on bumper
«
on:
June 22, 2018, 12:49:37 PM »
Cut it close driving into the garage and scrapped the white front bumper of the van with the black saddlebag and left black marks.
Have tried cleaner and a scrub pad but didn't remove anything. Any ideas other than sanding/scraping?

Little confused here, is the black mark on the van? If that's the case you should just be happy the bike is unscathed! :hehehe

Thanks Gryp, I'll try that. Wasn't sure what would dissolve that type of plastic.

Shouldn't take more than a quick wipe to get most if not all of the scrape off.
It's an old boatyard trick that removes the multitude of dings and scrapes that boat hulls are subject to. Don't use anything abrasive to get rid of those scrapes, it will just scuff the finish and make it worse.

I keep a squeeze bottle of acetone handy in the garage, it's a great remover of many stains, tape residue, cleans greasy items and evaporates fast. So far have not damaged anything with it.

Sounds like it will work too on the "mysterious" scrape I found on the front corner of the 525i.
Thanks for the help.

Update - worked like a charm! Had to resist the urge to go wiping everything down with it.

always best to test a solvent in an inconspicuous place. tried to get pine tree sap off my boat engine with denatured alcohol and it started to dissolve the plastic. works fine on my cars though.
