Fuel pump manufacturer noise difference?
« on: May 14, 2021, 02:50:06 PM »
Are the Bosch fuel pumps noticeably quieter than the Noris, or the Chinese eBay pumps?

Beemer Boneyard shows the Bosch (just the pump) as $240, Noris as $190 (https://www.beemerboneyard.com/k71011k1ak1u.html ). eBay has the Chinese version for $70.

3 years and 20k miles ago, I installed a Chinese eBay version, and have had no issues operationally with it.

It crosses my mind however, to wonder if it would be worth breaking the piggy bank, to have a much quieter ride?

See http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=10054.msg85798#msg85798 mine is still running just fine. And it has been subjected long hot fast multi day runs in OZ summer temperatures that had the fuel in the tank bubbling.

What is reasonably quiet, Martin? Is it Huey-at-two thousand-feet quiet, honeybee quiet, hummingbird quiet, library quiet, funeral home viewing room quiet, mute swan quiet, outer space quiet? Some of these pumps can keep a body awake when it really needs to sleep during those long rides.

I just checked it, with a near full tank you can't hear the pump even with the fuel cap open. The OEM that I rated it as quiet as compared to others could always be heard. On our 4 day bike marathon on 40C plus days with a low fuel level (under 5 litres left)the noise was quite noticeable but disappeared when the tank was full. From my observations noise level is dependant on fuel level and temperature of fuel.

When I started riding bricks, I couldn't believe how loud the OEM pump was. I've got used to it now, it seems now to be as quiet as an angels fart.

The stock one gets loud when there's very little fuel since the tank is then a bigger resonating chamber.  When I did my first tours on my K75RT it was so loud when it got near empty that I thought there was something wrong with the bike since I didn't know any better. (This  was wearing a half helmet and before I learned that you should always wear earplugs when you ride to keep from going deaf later in life.)
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
