RT deflector yellowed
« on: May 22, 2019, 12:03:28 PM »
The deflector strip on my '85 RT has yellowed quite a bit more than the rest of the windshield. Is there any treatment to de-yellow it?
I've seen new deflector strips for $75, or the aftermarket total windshield replacements for $300'ish, but those both seem expensive.
Any suggestions?

Sometimes clear plastic can be de yellowed with cut and polish,  wouldn't hurt to try it. I've done it on headlights for roadworthies, but I go El cheapo now with nifty or something similar.

I use Meguiars PlastX and a 6" bench grinder fitted with a 6'' loose cotton buffing wheel that I only used on plastic. I have a separate buff for metal. The buff speeds up the process but requires a gentle approach with light pressure and the object needs to be kept moving. A slower safer method is to do it by hand. I have been told not to use silicone spray products on acrylic as it can cause fatigue cracks in the plastic.
