Hi all - new member introduction
« on: July 25, 2013, 04:56:58 PM »
Hi all,

I have been looking around here for a little while.  Since I am getting closer to buying a brick, I thought it would be a good time to make an introduction.  I have been riding for a little over a year now.  Took the MSF class last spring as a 40th birthday present.  Since then I have bought a 1981 Suzuki GS850G and a 1990 Suzuki Katana 1100.  I live in Hermosa Beach CA, USA and ride as much as I can.

In my search for a brick I have looked at and ridden a '91 K100 and just now a '96 K1100 with 3900 miles.  The low miles on the K1100 really appeals to me.  The dealer wants $6700.  Oddly it has some broken items.  The fuel gauge and the fork seals.  Also the foam rubber is starting to disintegrate (the tank pads and the seal at the lower fairing).

Are narrower bags available for these bikes?

Any thoughts or tips are welcome.  I look forward to getting to know the forum and its members.  Thanks.

Category: Brick K- Bikes (Longitudinal Multis): bikes for sale

1986 Madison Sliver K75C (the last ’86 K75C built)?

I have owned this stock Madison Silver K75C bike (s/n 0131022), build date 3-86, since the deceased original owner quit riding it at 6861 miles. The bike now has 49,600 miles on the speedometer. It was delivered on 9-1-86 at the factory and the new owner took it on an Edelweiss European tour then shipped it home. I believe this to possibly be the last ’87 K75C built. The records I have access to indicate it is possibly the last ’86 C built. The last 28 or 29 bikes built were “T” models (the last s/n issued was 0131051).This bike is in top condition and has just had an annual service completed. It never has been crashed, bent a wheel or tipped over and the body work and paint are in excellent condition with very few road nicks. I stay on top of the maintenance issues. The clutch and final drive spline(s) were inspected and lubed at about 20K. I have synthetic lube in the transmission and final drive. The bike has BMW optional black “machine highlighted” wheels, Simi floating EBC rotors and BT-45 tires with about 2000 miles on them. I just completed a brake service and installed new Galfer pads. The bike features an Odyssey premium battery, factory heated grips, emergency four way flashers, and bag mounts. The seat is custom Corbin “Conley” leather that is water proof similar Jaguar seats. The Works Performance shock with ARS and remote reservoir was serviced last year. I also installed an Aeroflow headlight shield to protect the fairing mounted headlight. I have the original complete tool roll, Riders manual, and extra keys delivered with the bike. The bike has the original ’86 blue CA license plate. Contact me for detailed photos of the bike.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and ask if this is Cole from Bikerowave? I remember your screen name.  :riding:

Small world if it is.

I'd say that you should pass on one with fork seal issues, while not a hard job (only gauging from how hard it is on my honda), there are tons of bikes out there without that issue, for less of a price than that.

I took a hiatus in 2011, but I was just about to ride my K75 over there for volunteer day. :D

After looking at 6 or more K1100RS motorcycles I have bought one.  Its a 1996 with 22k miles.  Complete but a little rough.  I love riding it even with its leaky fork seals and scalloped worn out tires.  New tires are ordered and front shocks are removed for seal replacement.  I would have finished this job but some PO torqued the life out of the shock end bolt.  I was so lucky to get it out without drilling.  A new bolt has been ordered.

The heated grips work - toasty.  High beam switch, parking lights, and hazard lights don't seem to work.

I looked at a cream puff that was perfect and was ready to buy but the owner decided to keep it.  I am glad I got this fixer upper.  I like the projects.

I have the belly pan (sliver with K1100RS stickers - yeah) and saddle bags.  No bolts to hold the belly pan on, these have been ordered.

The PO was thinking of going naked with LED lights - not my taste.
