oil seeping from somewhere above the engine transmission housing seal

Hello,

I saw some oil near the seam between the engine and the transmission housing. There was oil under the transmission too, but since that could have just dripped down I went to a car wash bay, cleaned everything and left the bike overnight. Now I see that under the transmission I don't see any oil, but there is oil near the seam, but NOT exactly at the seam. On closer inspection it seems to be coming from somewhere above and it looks like it is from the narrow cavity that is in front of the alternator, perhaps from near the bolt inside. What does this mean? Any clues on what should I check next? I am attaching some pictures.

I also notice some gap between the housing and the engine and some nicks at the seam. Perhaps the previous owner did a poor job while repairing something.

I forgot to mention which bike this is from (too many K bikes). This is 1993 K1100RS

One place to inspect would be around the alternator shaft seal.


Remove the alternator and check for seepage around the alternator driving dog. The seal is in the intermediate housing behind the dog.
