Hail from Denmark!
« on: May 17, 2017, 02:45:28 AM »
Hello everyone!

My name is Johan, I'm 26 and work as a soldier in Denmark.
I have been riding for about 3 years now. I used to ride a Yamaha FZ6, but after Way too Many close calls I've decided to get a BMW K75C from 1987, and are now cruising and enjoying the ride instead of going fast..
Best. Decision. Ever.

I've always had a dream of building/wrenching/customizing my own bike. And the BMW Will probably outlive me, so I've decided to make it my very own someday.

Anyways, this forum has been very helpfull to me, and I'm glad to be a part of it now.

Welcome to the party, Johan! How many kilometers on the bike? It appears well-maintained.

Thanks guys!

@Laitch - it has done 60.000 kilometers, and is in perfect shape! It was owned by an elderly woman before me who had it since new.
It jumps out of gear from time to time and thats the only thing I noticed.

Johan, a very nice bike and a wise change in direction. Wanna race your bike?? Go to a track. Wanna live to ride another day? Do like you're doing now. These bikes have character, are interesting and well built. Reliable, too. What the hell else do you want?

Enjoy,
Chris

You need to shift from gear to gear firmly and with authority riding these bikes. Be sure to do that. Don't use a light touch.

See if that lessens the jumping.

Welcome Johan.

You have come to the right place for help, this is the place for classic BMW K-Bikes.

I have great memories of Denmark from my trips in the early 1980s while in the US Air Force stationed in Germany.  We set up our radar equipment in an area near Thisted and always encountered great people as we rode our bicycles touring the surrounding area.

repair shop in denmark (jutland)?
« Reply #12 on: May 28, 2018, 10:37:19 PM »
hi. i'm the proud owner of a 1985 K100RS which lives in skanderborg, whereas i live in san francisco. i visit it four or five times per year, for a few days each time. i have a two week trip coming up (norway and sweden) in july. and i have a question, for those like johan who live in denmark, especially if in jutland: where can i take the bike for repairs beyond my skills? i self-maintain a 1984 R100 here in california, but there's a shop i can go to when i get in over my head. i've found several shops in germany via the web, but if i could find one in denmark i would be warmer and fuzzier. thanks!

I'm interested in understanding how you store your bike when you are away from it. Do you empty the fuel tank, keep conditioned fuel in the tank, disconnect the battery ground cable, leave it on a charger, keep it on the center stand, keep it heated, etc.?

it's stored in an unheated garage, and i have no block heater for it. for the winter, center stand, charger, disconnect negative lead: yes; leave a few liters of fuel and dump this in spring time and replace with fresh fuel. the bike is grumpy when cold even during summer, so i'm going to look into the wiring for the temperature sensor, because the jetronic doesn't seem to know when the engine is cold. with a diesel i would add fuel stabilizer, but not for petrol.
