hi. help!?... oh boy
« on: May 29, 2014, 01:56:31 AM »
greetings!
i picked up a 1987 K75 (submodel eludes me, haven't read all that yet) last night that has been sitting for about a year after it "suddenly stopped running" shortly after being dumped on the right side.  here it is in the back of my truck:

the headlight is not on, in fact there is no battery in it, the sun is at just the right angle.

the engine spins and lights come on but no firing.  the PO said it ran on ether last month... well i'm pretty sure the fuel pump is shot and the sender might be as well.  this is how i found the fuel pump, which i gather is not correctly mounted (not mounted at all really, it's loose)

the strainer is somewhat visible in the background here.  what's not really clear is that it looks to have sand in it.  all the hoses in the tank are peeling and the rubber isolator gasket is more like black RTV than rubber.

i think i'll piece together my own aftermarket fuel pump and test the fuel sender once i get it all pulled out and drain that nasty nasty whiskey gas.  if anyone has tips and tricks to share i'd appreciate it.  i've read the thread a few times: http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=2058.0

and almost as a second thought, if anyone has a right side foot peg plate for a reasonable price please let me know.  the previous owner's getoff broke the brake lever pivot hole

There's a footpeg bracket on ebay for $29 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1991-BMW-K100LT-Right-Side-Front-Rear-Foot-Pegs-Mounting-Bracket-4075-/141286124762?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e54f2cda&vxp=mtr  wrong color but good price, $90 seems to be the going rate.

Fuel pump rubber dampener dissolving in old gas is a common problem.  Clean out tank, for new stuff try beemerboneyard.com, there are some threads on Ford Mustang fuel pumps or others much cheaper than the BMW ones. Looks like a K75C, drum rear brake.

Mystic red, yes absolutely the filterbis getting changed. In found the NAPA equivalent part while browsing the lieberry threads.  I need to find all new hoses too, the external ones are cracked and scary as well.

Awesome , thanks for that link.  The left side is far more common than the right. Backwards to be but such is life.
