Looking for a fuel Tank
« on: July 07, 2013, 11:02:03 AM »
Looking for a clean tank for my '89 K75.  No internals needed, just the tank.

I have a leaker and can't seem to find anyone to weld it up.  Epoxy seems to hold for a month or so, and then it starts seeping again.

Let me know what you have.....Black a plus.

Check with Radiator shops. I had my tank welded this week by one.

NAPA has a gas tank sealer that is two part epoxy, that works great, specifically designed for gas tanks.  You have to work fast as it sets up in a hurry.  I suggest getting two packages as it sets up so fast you don't really have time to check everything out.  Make sure you have everything ready and the painted tank parts covered.

I cleaned out mine as best I could, leak was under fuel pump, where they always are.  then applied the product both inside and outside the tank.  6 months no seep or leak, and I had a hole.

Last year I tried another epoxy and it gave out half  way through the summer.  I tell you for $14.95 this stuff is a miracle and way cheaper than welding.

Cracks grow and grow fast on aluminum in particular. Sealer on a pinhole from an incomplete weld...knock yourself out. Thats the best place to use it.

My tank had a hair line crack at a weld for the side brackets. It happened from poor tempering after the tank was made. On a crack sealer is just going to need to be reapplied eventually. A proper weld will basically remove the crack so it cant spread.
