R1100 wheel on 86 k100
« on: October 05, 2015, 01:00:30 PM »
Hi all!

This isn't for the purists, so look away now if you are....

I've bought a rear wheel off an r1100 which I have fitted. It's 5inch wide X 17. Love how it looks and I'm planning on swapping the front end to have the front rim & brakes to match somewhere along the line. I now need to find a tyre/tire. I'm thinking 150 70 17 but not sure it will fit beside drive shaft.

Does anyone have experience of this?

I have read that some people have fitted this tyre on the later k1100 so I'm guessing it does fit,

Can anyone confirm?

Many thanks in advance!  :2thumbup:

Download and read this Word document, a collection of articles assembled from various posts to various Internet forums.  It is all the good information about fitting K1200 / R1100 wheels and wide tires (or tyres or tiors) to classic K-bikes.  It's big, 54MB, because of lots of pictures.

If your kaffe-ing your bike, you might be interested in spoked wheels to give it that retro look.  Download and read all the files in this directory to understand how that is accomplished.  If you're more of a movie buff, see the film instead of reading the book.

Hi all,

So I got a tyre fitted to the rim and bad news. Turns out this wheel was sold to me incorrectly. Looked into the part number and it's the rear of a k1200RS.

As such there is an approx 20mm offset to the left of the bike. Having read up on other BM K forums it's come to light that an offset of 12mm is acceptable and does not effect the handling (strange I know)

So basically just posting to inform really. Unless you're happy with a 20mm offset, don't buy a k1200rt rim for a k100!
