Title: BMW K100 exhaust cleaning
Post by: Kudlaty on January 05, 2019, 06:57:58 PM
Hi, I just took off my exhaust because want to change silencer for shorter one and downpipes inside looks really bad, there is probably 1 mm thick quite soft black shii... in.  And I think to myself  that before I will put it back with new silencer would be nice to clean it. Any ideas how to or what I can use?

This is bmw K100 rs 1984

The mixture is too rich and needs to be adjusted. The early 2v K's had a built in diagnostic feature built in. With the engine up to temp and the idle set at 1000 RPM press the green stater button. If the mixture is correct the revs should stay the same or rise very slightly if it rises significantly the mixture is too lean, if  it drops or dies the mixture is too rich. To adjust there is a rubber plug on top of the RH front of the airbox once removed a 5mm Allen plug is needed to adjust it. You can either look up and use the lean drop method or use an exhaust gas analyzer. With the mixture correctly adjusted the carbon will burn out of the exhaust.
Regards Martin.
