1987 K75S Complete rebuild start.
« on: June 06, 2025, 01:18:56 PM »
Posted a video last year in the welcome section now I am ready to start my rebuild. The bike has 50Kish and ran great but was taken care of poorly. I obtained it for free. I have stripped the bike down and have begun parts restoration. I am starting with the engine and will work my way from there. I spent the last few weeks on here going through posts that might answer questions I had. My first question is the output shaft moves about a 1/4 inch when I pull on it is this normal? (It did have a clunk when i would engage the clutch) Any tips on what I should do to engine such as seals, gaskets, adjustments etc please let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Yes that's normal, with the clutch basket removed. I'm pretty sure when the clutch basket is replaced and the clutch nut tightened, that will eliminate the end float.

With the seals it's worth asking yourself how difficult will it be to replace when it's all back together. The O-ring was probably strained on removal, I think that would be worth replacing. One thing you will probably see soon is how incredibly easy a lot of brick parts are to replace.

Some seals will be dry after a long storage. I had coolant leaks under the pump after storage but it sealed up after riding for a while.
