K100 1984 Electric fault
« on: January 24, 2017, 03:03:13 PM »

hi, i have problem with the bike.
First samal stuff start showing up:
- gear indicators dont show gears time to time
-indicators dont go on, later they didnt stop flashing and later just stay on and cant turn it off.
-then all lights go off
-and on the end it didnt even start

Now its not starting and only stuff showing up on the bike is clock and parking light.

I check:
-ignition switch
-engine shut off switch
-main connections to the ground(under the tank) and even put strait cable from battery to connections.
-check and change brushes in the starter motor

I try everything what i was thinking off and now i dont know what to do. only one stuf what i find was that on plug from "optimal heathed grips" brown wire and green/black are connected toggeder and they shouldnt, i check it and it geting it from speedo and speedo from them oil pressure sensor even if disconected nothing happens. Speedo and starter are good as i check it on anader k100.

Any ideas?

1.  Checked all the fuses?

2.  Check for continuity of the kill/run switch, and/or clean the contacts of that switch, plus the starter push button?

1. all fuses are new and have good conection
2. kill/run switch is clean and have connection on the cables and work fine, same with push button.

Consider cleaning the ignition switch plug that is under the tank. Clean the plug that goes to the fuel injection control unit and be sure it is firmly connected.

Weak or old battery?  The starter relay contacts will weld closed if a weak battery is used.

I'm a little confused...

What indicators?  The turn signal indicators in the instrument cluster?  The idiot lights in the cluster?  The turn signals?

"All lights go off"   All the lights on the bike(headlight, tail, brake, turn signals)?  All the lights in the instrument cluster?

Are the problems just in the instrument cluster or the whole bike?

Is this bike stock or has it been modified?

Have you checked the load shed relay to confirm it is working properly?

-and on the end it didnt even start . . .
Now its not starting . . . .
Any ideas?
It is not turning over, or it is turning over but not starting?
My idea is to use the troubleshooting chart in this post step-by-step and let us know which box you get stalled at. Follow the ignition control and fuel injector control charts, too.

It's too early to mark this down as an ancestral curse.

He isn't even try to turn over, I what I know if it missing clutch connection it will not start. And now he getting ground on green/brown wire and it shouldn't be like that.

That's fuse #7 circuits on the load shed relay, horn relay, horn switch, flasher unit, flasher switch--gotta find what is shorting to ground.  i would expect fuse 7 to blow if something shorted, but if not then maybe the new battery got drained by the shorting load...what's battery voltage reading when key is OFF, and with key ON in RUN position, then what is voltage when you press starter button, 3 measurements.

find 1 problem, one gray wire what going from ignition switch was melted a bit and connect tofew diffrent ones. Have change it and light on the clouser show up, indicators are working, neutral light with gears as well but still have problem with:

-headlight dont work, only hight beam warning light is all time on(only off if turn off light switch)
-horn is not working but can hear the relay
-fuel pump dont work
-and i try to turn engine over and it did for a few sec(i turn it off) try again and nothing.
