Hey everyone glad I found this forum it appears to be full of knowledge. Recently I picked up a 1991 K100RS for a great price that is in pretty good shape. my plan is too completely take it apart clean it up perform any repairs/maintenance, and put back together. No chopping up "Café Build" here. Why mess with perfection, save that for the pos Hondas. :hehehe But if that's what you want to do go for it I don't knock others personal desires for a bike. A little about my self I'm a VW technician (Yes technician, I went to school including the VW Academy say the word mechanic and their will be violence :nono )by trade. I drive BMW cars and ride Triumph motorcycles. Just pick a brand right......Look forward to chatting with you all hope to bring some knowledge to the site but I'm sure no where near as much as those already here.

Welcome :bmwsmile ...with 30 yr old bikes, we all are technicians :hehehe !

Jack I'm still an old style Mechanic, did my trade in the OZ Army as a 16 year old. Had to be able to fix anything from a lawn mower to a Centurion tank. :hehehe
Regards Martin.

Yeah Martin :bmwsmile ...I did my apprenticeship on the farm in the '80's farm crisis, when, if YOU couldn't fix it yourself, it stayed broken. BK your background will serve you well, and the bike will not disappoint. Good luck.

Welcome, Mr. Knuckles! I am an amateur mechanic having learned the ropes on 60's vintage Volkswagens a.k.a. "Hitler's Revenge", usually on the side of the road at night on my way home from school or work. Fifty years later, I can putter around on my Bricks in the comfort of my garage.

Welcome, good to have you in the club!
I'm a Chevy mechanic err... technician in that I use the scan tool as much as anything these days to diagnose cars at work and in my former life I was an electronics tech. BMW is my two-wheeled ride of choice as started my auto mechanical life working on VWs; of the air-cooled variety, and still have two Bugs that my daughters will not let me get rid of.
Lot of good info for our K-bike here, much of the basic info has been covered so a good search may contain answers to many of your questions.
