viffygyrl suggested a remote route from the top of the ortega to murrieta...  jeffeverdes curiosity took over and he investigated... he suggested to ride it from murrieta instead of from the ortega as he did... so this afternoon we did just that...

we picked up clinton keith off grand... the we took a right at tenaja... after the second no outlet sign we stopped and asked a forest service officer about it... there are 2 ways to get there... the long way and the short way... we opted for the short way because it was late in the day and didnt want to be out there at night... so we took a right at cleveland forest road... and it was on... o my was it on... all the way back to the ortega...

clinton keith and tenaja were fine roads snaking their way through horse country...

tenaja road... forest fire watch tower...

cleveland forest road... the beginning... it wouldnt last for long...

the road narrowed to about 6 feet wide... lots of debris... but easily rideable 2 up...

then we got into dirty washes... giant craters on the edges from erosion... but still easily rideable 2 up...

this thing went to hairpin switchbacks and decreasing radius corners with sheer cliffs... lots of rocks and dirt... at this point still easily rideable 2 up...

most of this ride is second gear back brake only...

then we stumbled upon mountain bikers parked in fee areas riding dirt trails... well by this time they were putting their rigs on their car racks...

we keep rolling while we got light...

the sky was fabulous... once the sun set we could see lotts o stars...

we sorted out whoopdedoos and off camber rock littered corners...

we found ourselves about half way and quickly running out of light...

ok... now what... the amber catz xlo fog bug lights are doing good... at least we are going up hill by now... the road is still ok 2 up...

riding the goat at night... crazy aint it...

the blue white catz xlo driving bug lights are doing good...

too dark for photos...

homeward bound on the ortega at night... now that was an experience...

we plan on going back to cleveland forest road when we can give it the time it deserves... its very beautiful there...
