I’m 50yrs old and was hunting for a Pan Euro ST1100 and ended up with this pristine 1100LT-SE.  1993 with a mere 12100 miles and two owners.. two keys, original toolkit and owners pack etc.   couldn’t resist it.

I’ve owned a K75LT many years ago and enjoyed that for a year or so but never realistically expected to own another Brick tbh.

Changed the engine, gearbox and final drive box oil which took all of ten minutes 🙂

PS hope the mass of images don’t bore you🙈

A carpeted garage makes for comfortable oil changes I'll bet. :laughing4-giggles:  Welcome, Jon, and thanks for displaying your photographic mastery with rare and exotic subject matter.  icon_cheers

Hahaha, yes my knees remain intact carrying out oil changes on a carpeted floor🤣.

On a more serious note, in an effort to help any reader avoid making the same mistake I made yesterday - I haven’t had my K1100LT long, two weeks  in fact and I broke it already - however I fixed it again quickly!  I had left the ignition on having foolishly used the kill switch to shut her down last ride so obviously the battery was dead.   I attempted to jump it from another battery piggy backed with jump leads and said battery not being man enough for the task caused the starter relay to stick closed… consequently when I replaced the old battery that I had killed with a new one and connected it the flippin bike would turn over despite kill switch and ignition off - I thought “she’s keen!”.

I was very worried I had caused major electrical damage but Google was my friend and I diagnosed the starter relay and located it under the tank and easily accessible with a minor raise of rank and I simply tapped it gently with a light hammer and hey presto , able to connect battery and bike fired right up in the normal way ie with ignition on and starter button!   Dodged a bullet and learnt a lesson, only ever attempt to start it with a healthy and adequate battery… 🤔

Welcome!  Nice bike you have there, I like that shade of blue.

I too, like working on a carpet.  Very easy on old joints when the garage is cold and damp and I have to get under the engine or transmission or when I am doing a spline lube.  My carpet is a cheaper and takes up a whole lot less room when I'm not using it than one of those fancy motorcycle lifts.  I get mine at the side of the road when someone is installing new carpet in their home.

Yeah, I'm a cheap bastard.

Yes mine would always be an offcut going very cheap!

Spline lube…. Now there’s a subject that keeps appearing before my eyes on a screen🙈.   1993 with 12k miles, I’m unsure whether I should be fretting or not - age or mileage ??!

Personally, I would do it.  Chances are, at 12,000 miles it has probably never been done, and I am not sure of the lubrication properties of lube that is approaching 30 years old.  A couple hours spent getting into the drive shaft to look at it and put a little spline lube on it adds a lot to my peace of mind when far from home on a dark and stormy night.

My personal approach is to do a complete maintenance, fluid change, and inspection on a "new" bike.  It finds a lot of "wow, I'm glad I found that" things the seller may, or may not, have known or mentioned when I bought it.  Also, there are things like rubber bits that do not age well.

I too, like working on a carpet.
It should be added here that knee pads are not the exclusive tools of combat soldiers, production sex workers, religious pilgrims and roofers. They're usually available for the rest of us at hardware stores and in prices ranging from cheap bastard upward.

Drive shaft splines don't wear on K1100s like they do on K75s/K100s.

If you do lube the drive shaft splines on a K1100 then it is important to have the U-Joints at both ends phased properly.

Four months in and admittedly I haven’t put many miles on this but I have well and truly bonded with it… took me a little while to adjust to the revvy nature of the four pots in relation to say a large BMW boxer but it’s so smooth and quite rapid over 4.5 rpm and comfortable and gorgeous to simply gaze at with a coffee in hand!!
