Hi from Cape Town, South Africa
« on: July 06, 2022, 08:12:48 AM »
I ride a 1987 K100RT.
VIN 00092744
Engine Number 104EA24862113

Had it for 4 years now. Really enjoying it.

I have picked up an issue with the Right Indicator Switch Hand Controls Unit.  It has burnt into the main harness itself.

writing on switch harness E9501.4
possible part number on switch harness 6131 1459 462

No replacement part available locally.

I would appreciate any suggestions on where to source this part and where to search on this forum for this part?

Thank you

Welcome!  I'm not sure I understand your problem.  Is it possible to post some photos of your bike(we all like looking at our bikes) and some photos of the problem?

Is the problem in the switch itself, the connector under the tank to the main harness, or in the wires between the switch and the connector?

Good Morning

Thanks to The Mighty Gryphon for reply and comment.

I have posted a photo of Big Red and the Control Switch and harness.

The problems are the switch itself and the connector under the tank to the main harness and in the wires between the switch and the connector.

I am stripping harness to locate and replace burnt wiring.

I will need to replace the Control Switch and Switch sub harness.

I will look at further comments.

Thank you

Appreciate all feedback

Can you see the color(s) of the burnt wires?

What kind of electrical problems were you having(lights, turn signals, starter)?

Are there any modifications to the bike's electrical system?  Any added lights or accessories?

Thanks to Laitch for assistance with photos.

In reply to The Mighty Gryphon:-

K100 is standard although previous owner added charger for phone.

The problem first presented as a non working park light.

Checked bulb and fuses - no joy.  Removed fuel tank and saw burnt wires on harness.

Then traced back to to Control Switch harness

It has the following exposed burnt wires

1. blue and white to starter ignition button (badly burnt)
2. black and green to turn indicator switch
3. blue and green to turn cancel switch
4.  blue and yellow to turn cancel switch

Thanks for your replies

Regards
Craig
