K75RT vs K1100LT
« on: January 13, 2022, 10:38:41 AM »
I sold the K1100LT I had . One of the issues [besides the heat] I had was my knees hit the fairing, which could get quite warm on the left side. I'm not excessively tall [6' ] but I guess I have long legs. I really like the 75 engine and am wondering if the 75RT has the same or similar knee clearance as the 1100LT.

I don't think you'll notice any difference.

I can't say much about k1100's.

Did it have one of the so called comfort seats, there are a few types, I think. I'm also over six foot and my knees were touching the knee panels. I put one of the more flat top like seats on, and that helped cause it sits back a little bit more.

I also had a ridiculous amount of engine heat on my legs when I got my brick on the road. I temporarily removed the gaiter between the fairing and the forks, I think that's when the problem disappeared, so l left them off.

You will see that some RT models also have air vents to cool your legs, then the knee panels also have slots to accept the air from the vents.

SSD has those vents on his K100LT and said they make no difference. He's thinking about converting to a naked.

I wonder if some of the internal baffles are missing, it's been a bit of a lucky dip with my bricks, what I find behind when I remove the fairings.

If he has those gaiters up front I think he'll find a big improvement if he removes them.

I had mine apart for fork seals, and I put insulation blanket everywhere I could. It helped, but not enough for me.

The fairings should have baffles to direct engine heat out the side vents rather than continuing to the knee panels. This might have been what fixed my heat problem, I can't remember what I did that fixed it.

I have 165,000 miles on my K1100LT, many down Southern US and S.America and heat has never been an issue for me. Like other have said, maybe some panels had been removed.

I have a K75RT that I've had in a lot of warm places like the desert Southwest in June and July.  Heat is just part of the price one pays for good weather protection from the cold and wet.  I guess it's the downside of being able to ride twelve months out of the year.

As far as knee room, both fairings are going to put the knee panels in pretty much the same place, so the riding position will be very similar.

I did seem to have good luck with a fuel cooler in the return line of my K75RT that does a good job of keeping the tank temperature only a couple degrees warmer than ambient.

The K75RT has about an inch or so LESS knee room. The K1100LT has the same main fairing but it is mounted farther forward from the steering head.

The other big difference is that K75RT fairing lowers provide better foot protection.  In cold weather your feet will be much colder on a K1100LT.

You can deal with the limited RT/LT knee room by using a customized seat that puts the rider seating position farther back. For example, I have a 34" inseam and on my K1100LT I have Russell Day long seat that lets me sit about an inch and a half farther back than the stock seating position.
