retired perogative
« on: January 08, 2019, 04:06:34 PM »
its tuesday.
forecast for rest of week is 30's.  snow on sunday.
forecast for today...sunny and 60.

wait for the commuter rush hour traffic to die down and ....grab a brick and GO!

off for a few hour ride to the MD shoreline south of Chesapeake Beach.

there is a big smile inside that helmet.....

i am constantly amazed at how perfect BMW got the ergo's and aero on the K75S.  windscreen puts the perfect amount of air on the chest with zero helmet buffeting.  fairing flares out just right to provide a pocket for the grips so that there is no wind on the hands. stock seat is just the right balance between firm and soft for hours of sporty riding. and the master yoda bar position makes turning so natural.

K75S's rock!

You must be a couple inches taller than I am at 6'1".  The turbulence on my K75S hit the lower part of the helmet, and while it didsn't knock my head around, the noise was awful, even with hearing protection.  Otherwise the bike is perfect.

The windshield turbulence was easy to fix.  I just took about 4 inches off.  Besides being quieter, I think it looks better.

Feeling a little envious.  Snow and ice around here since New Year's Eve.  Even when it warmed up a little the other day there was way too much salt on the roads.  Looks like my bricks are stuck in the garage for at least another ten weeks.

Helmets contribute a lot to the noise. I have three helmets, a Nolan N104 flip front drop with down tinted visor $400.00 - $500.00 AU noisiest and puts strain on my neck. An RXT full face 2nd quietest and less neck strain picked up new for $5.00 complete with bag and visor still covered with protective sticker. It was at the local recycle and was incorrectly labeled as XS when it was a M. And an Aldi Torque full face drop down tinted visor that I picked up when they marked it down $50.00 Au with 2 sets of pads and 2 visors the quietest and most comfortable. Buying helmets is a PITA, besides checking for fit you don't know how they are going to perform until you get them out on the road, and then your stuck with it.
Regards Martin.

actually, i appear to be SHORTER than you are at 5'11''.  ride is (relatively) quiet too.

the helmet has a lot to do with percieved turbulence and noise.  helmet aero design varies widely.  some are good, some are not.  i use a shoei gt-air.  i have tried moving my head up and down to simulate taller or shorter rider...zero increase in buffeting or noise.

Me too!
I can do a ride to the north on a nice day, let's have a brick day.

Agree completely about the K75S - it fits me perfectly.

Maybe being shorter gets you down below the turbulence, or at least low enough that it doesn't get in the helmet.

I could feel with my hand where the turbulence was with the stock windshield, right into the visor.  There was a band of turbulence about 2 inches high between the still air behind the shield and the undisturbed smooth air flow above.

Cutting down the windshield moved the clean, smooth airflow down to the top of my shoulders so my helmet was fully in clean air.  The reduction in noise was dramatic.

stokester and mlytle; Sounds awesome! If it's hot enough, we have a pool to jump in after a roasting on the bricks.
I know there's another red K75S somewhere nearby .. we've saluted each other passing on Rt6 or Mason Springs Rd. a few times, always in opposite directions.

I have a Laminarlip on my '93 K75S. It reduces turbulence.
