I'm going to try the sidecase hinges next time the ones I have break. Those OEM hinges are crap.

Let me know how that goes.

I assume you are going to print using ABS?

Never had an issue with mine.  The only time they broke is when I low-sided on sand into a ditch and they broke probably by design which saved the case.

They are $8.50 ea.

I use aluminum piano hinges.

I never did it probably because it wasn't going to work with the filaments I have lying around. ABS and PETG are to hard and brittle. You'd have to use nylon or vinyl filaments and spending $30 bucks for a roll of filament that might or might not work is kind of not a good cost/benefit ratio. Plus, they'd need lots of supports due to the overhang that would be a bitch to remove or you'd need water soluble supports and a multi-extruder printer which I don't have.

Those hinges are polypropylene and molded so they can flex at the pivot point.  I would suspect that they would not be very successful if 3D printed.  At $8.50 a pop for the factory part they're one item I wouldn't hesitate getting from BMW.

BTW; If you're ever out touring and a hinge breaks then 2 or 3 layers of duct tape makes for an adequate temporary repair. BTDT.

Or you can carry a spare hinge.

They take up virtually no space and will guarantee that you will never have one break.  If necessary, they can be changed in 5 minutes on the side of the road with no tools.
