Things I've learned about my K bike.

Today I learned that the 5 "captured" nuts that the muffler heat shield is attached to aren't in fact captured at all.
I also learned that you will lose all five of them riding around the block without the heat shield attached.  :riding:

I'm missing one myself. Anyone know where to get them aside from the dealer?

If you have to order them, get an extra one for me, I'll send you a SASE and a dollar.

Btw you can get the screws for your local Fastenal but not as short as need, so you'll have to grind or cut them down.

I was unable to find anything that had the same dimensions as the factory nut. I just ordered mine from Max BMW... The shipping was more than the nuts. I was irritated about that but feel the heat shield was probably put there for a reason. (melting bags?) I did get replacement screws from Fastenal in ss. I am thinking of just putting a washer between the heat shield and the muffler plus one under the head to take up the 2 mm extra length. I cut bolts down all the time but only being 8mm long there's not much room to work with.

I sure thought there should have been washers under the bolt but they were missing from mine. I didn't bother to look for one when I looked at the fiche because I knew I was going to put one there regardless.  :dunno2: PO must have dropped them all.
