Inlet Manifold Rubber (TOP) alternative clips suggestions
« on: April 13, 2017, 06:43:16 PM »
I need to replace the one-use clips on the rubbers between the plenum and the throttle bodies

Does anyone know a source of alternative screw clips?

Went to the local monolithic hardware store and their jubilee / radiator style clips were too wide to fit into the recess in the rubbers.

Thanks

Take a look at McMaster Carr. They might have something that would work.

Oetiker crimp clamps on EBay but they require a special tool which is also available on Ebay. There is another type I will post when I find it. Try searching stainless steel hose crimp clamps.

My god!

That's a catalogue.

Going through the index, I got distracted by flags. Disappointing that I couldn't get a Syrian flag but good to see the Australian one at the top of the list. When living in Colorado, it used to amuse me to see the weekend warriors on their harleys with a stars and stripes bandanna on their heads NO helmet. Just the ticket for full cranial protection.

Thanks for the replies - am confident that I will find what I need.

And if it comes to that, I do have a good selection of cable ties

They have been recommended on another K bike forum.  I have a set for my K75.

Found it cheaper source of Oetiker clamps and the tool. I don't know if they are big enough but the tool is cheap. You might need to contact them to get the correct size.  :dunno  I also suggested stainless zip ties used in conjunction with the zip tie gun, would be better than standard nylon ties. https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20170413214607&SearchText=oetiker+hose++clamps

The crimp clamps can be crimped with wire-cutters (if you have side access, like on a CV boot) or with nippers/flushcutters if you don't. http://www.harborfreight.com/4-inch-end-nipper-pliers-39531.html

In a couple of months when we are deep in the rainy season I plan on opening up the engine to check the valves and also overhauling the throttle bodies etc - that is when I am going to use my precious one time use clamps!  Until then I will continue with my zip ties which may not be good but are better than what was on the bike when I got - nothing at all.

They work. Who could ask for anything more than that?

Having several nail removing pliers, might sacrifice the sharp edge on a pair and use them.

Still prefer to use screw or bolt hose clamps.

Am searching and will post the solution (if I find it)

It's out there

Here's a photo of the Suzuki clamp I mentioned above.  Not sure what you're looking for, but they worked on other bikes.

Exactly what I had in mind.

Will do the rounds of both the hydraulics shops and the various bike shops...

I used to have a suzuki SV650 and was pleased with the service and knowledge at the spares counter (more than I can say for the BMW outlet I try my best to avoid).

Public holiday tomorrow then I'll be into it.

I just went to the motorcycle wrecker around the corner; went through his bin of skinny hose clamps and walked out with 12 clamps of the right size for $10. Nothing wrong with recycling in my book.
