Asking the community what they think I should do about yesterday's rear tire puncture - repair or replace?

I would patch it and re-balance. But I wouldn't be leaving on a cross country trip.

I repair with mushroom plugs, so I wouldn't hesitate to repair that screw hole.  I just changed a tire that I rode for two years and 5,000 miles with a plug in it.  No big deal.

Like MW074 I'm not sure I would ride that tire to the West Coast, but for normal commuting and weekend trips I would just forget the tire had a hole in it.

I repair using the plugs, spaghetti or cord......many different terms.
I lube the cord with rubber cement, slide it into the puncture and repeat till leak stops.
Like any procedure with multiple options you'll find folks who prefer one over the other.
What matters is that the tire holds air after the repair.
A can of fix-a-flat added after repair won't hurt either.
Just clean the wheel when you get around to replacing the tire.
