Martin - the corbin seat is a nice long distance touring seat.  like sitting in a spoon.   it is not as nice for performance riding.  the spoon style restricts the ability to slide off the seat to the side.  you are kinda stuck in the middle.    stock seat makes it easy to shift weight side to side and is actually quite comfortable.   downside is that comfort only seems to last about 3-4hrs, then the "square" edges start poking the back of my thighs.   I plan to do a few track days on the brick, so wanted another seat option besides the corbin.    will use the corbin for longer jaunts. 


Stock seat came from my brother's 93 K75S.  It was used for 3k miles, then stored carefully...so it is basically new.

time for a little fun with the old brick....going to a track day at Summit Point tomorrow!

spent the day prepping the bike.
brake bleed
delete mirrors
tape headlight
pull fuses for head and parking lights
disable the Skene LED conspicuity lights front and rear
empty all the storage cubbies
check tire pressure
general "nut and bolt" check of whole bike

then prepped the bike trailer, loaded up, and ready to go in the morning!


i would have taken the "evil twin", but not confident in the ABS or clutch yet. still have some work to do on it.

we would be out riding in cali... he would be on this raggedy r1100rt... we would roll up on the sportbikers... he would taunt them... pass them in the twistys... let them catch up... then pass them again in the twistys...

the looks on their faces when this white haired 65 year old man takes his helmet off... ha ha ha...

its whats on the seat... not whats the seat is on...

what a great day!  wx was great, track fun and big group of like minded fools...



about 100 miles at 7500-8500 rpm.  tires are worn edge to edge.  both right and left foot pegs are ground down a bit from dragging in turns.

the old brick did great!  oldest bike there by far, with the skinniest tires.  by the end of the day we were running down new liter bikes and track prepped Ninjas with fat tires.  granted, it was the novice group, but....

michelin sport activ tires were impressive.  very grippy.

EBC rotors and EBC HH pads hauled the brick down time after time.

race-tek front springs and FOX rear setup was very stable and predictable.


only two issues.
- the #1 cyl TB balance screw vibrated out 3 turns.  realized it when idle was too high.  dialed it back in and all was better.
- think the stock clutch does not like repeated up and down shifts at 8500rpm.  seemed to be slipping going from 3 to 4.

loaded up..ready for MORE!!!

There was a bike comparison done on second hand bikes. A k100 included in the mix was scraping his tragkorbs on the track test.  :clap:

Hi: I have read this post with great interest, as it is a serious collection of good info about things to do on a bike that is exactly as mine, including color.  Thanks.

I have one question for the main contributor: how much of a pain is to disassemble the whole intake side? I have an air leak (can hear it) and want to get rid of it. The bike idles fine, so I assume is the Hose between the air filter and manifold, but want to replace all rubber components if I get to it.

first i would check to see exactly where the leak is so you know how much to take apart.  best way i have used is a little torch propane bottle.  start bike, turn propane on a little, and point it at the various parts and hoses of the intake system.  if the idle goes up anytime in the process, the torch is pointing at the leak.

taking bike apart to get at all the hoses and manifolds is not hard (especially the second time....), it just takes time.  gotta get the tank off first (like for so many other procedures), then the airfilter/afm box, then whatever else is needed to get the the problem.  if ya gotta go in for one hose, do them all while you are in there.....both gas lines and the intake lines.  you don't want to got back in there again.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I took the tank off but since the air box is below the down tubes of the frame, I did not see an easy way. Will look at the manuals but if you have any tips, appreciated.

gotta get the airfilter out, then you have enough play to disconnect the upper half of the airbox from the hose and the AFM and remove it.  bottom half unbolts from top of crankcase.

hopefully the last person to remove this installed the hose clamp on the intake hose correctly (oriented "up") so that you can get it with a long screwdriver through the wiring on the top of the bike.

you refering to the Z-hose crankcase breather?  then yup.  degreaser and elbow grease.  WD40 actually works well for cleaning this up too.

Alternatively, you can get the air filter out, then make yourself just enough room to get an allen wrench in there to unfasten the bottom half of the airbox from the engine block. Leave the top half hanging there and you don't have to mess with disconnecting and reconnecting the AFM etc. I forget all the details but I've done it that way and it works.
