Hi,
I'm JBT, from France, a brick enthusiast since I bought my first K100RT when I was 21 years old, in 1992. I probably was the youngest owner of such a rich old man bike, but it was perfectly fitting my needs: excellent protection for all year and all days use, a large luggage capacity, and a good reliability.
Since then, I owned many other bikes (aprox. 200), most of them beeing BMW, K and classic airheads. I even used the K in a professional way, working as a motorcycle custom officer, with special training and years spent riding K75 RT and K1100LT.
I also created a workshop dedicated to BMW airheads and K, now closed, but I still have a lot of tools, parts...and bikes, ones in good running condition, others to be restored. I usually restore 2 or 3 bikes a year, sell 2 and keep 1.
So I now have the pleasure to build all the bikes I've been dreaming of younger, rarely with a perfect conformity to genuine models, usually with optimisations. But don't worry, no choped frames or so called scramblers, I hate this fashion. I prefer modifying my bikes as if it was BMW who had made it.
And I'm particularly fond of sidecars, I own 3, 2 based on K , the third is a bitza on a 1969 R60 basis.
I'll open specific subjects about these bikes.
I'm not exclusive about Ks, I also have various other motorcycles, plenty of BMW Airheads, a few Yamaha singles (XT 600, TT600, SR 500) with a predilection with cheap or/and rare bikes nobody knows or wants. In my garage you'll also find one of the firsts Ducati Mostro 900, a 1933 Dollar 250 special, a Benelli 654 quattro, a Royal Enfield 500 Bullet, etc. And you missed a 350 Aermacchi Harley Davidson, a Gilera 600 Nordwest or a MZ 1000 SF. Of course none ever saw another garage but mine, I'm self sufficient about maintenance and repair.
A part from this, I leave in the french Alps, a nice area to ride if you love cornering on twisty roads, I work now in career counselling in schools in France and foreign countries. I travel as much as I can, and I like theater also, writing, directing and acting a play each year.
Nice to join you!
