Bonus, good work, thanks for posting the quick and easy solution, even though you thought it was too basic to admit to. A quick solution is good to find, so no apologies required there.

Congratulations and welcome, you have passed the initiation and you're now a fully fledged member of the "Layed It Down On The Right Side, And Survived" fraternity. I'd do the other repairs but leave the engine case damage as proof of membership. Wear the scars with pride, I think of them as the schmiss of brickdom. I became a member before I got my first brick, when I took it on its test ride. Needless to say there was little haggling that time. How embarrassment was that.

Glad to be a part of the club! Although I don't think my nerves can take too many more drops lol. Oof, I'm sure your pride was hurt when you returned from that test ride, I can relate. I hope that bike was a good addition to your stable

One of my early forays into Motobrick troubleshooting involved a bike that wouldn't start.  I spent an entire weekend pulling things apart, doing tests, reading voltages and searching the internet.

Then I turned on the kill switch and EVERYTHING WORKED!

So I've learned today that k bikes like to have gas, and they prefer the kill switch be on.  Noted!

I must say that bike in your profile picture is a beauty.  I love the paint scheme.  What type of K is that?  And what color is it? Is that the bike you mentioned you touched up only to drop it right after? Do you have any pics to share? I'd love to see some better shots of that bike

How did you like having three K's?

That was back then. I now own 12 K bikes:

K75 Frankenbrick (essenitally a K1100RS w/ K75 motor)
1986 K100
1986 K75C (Luftmeister Turbo)
1991 K75S
1992 K75S
1993 K75S
1995 K75
1991 K1
1993 K1100LT
1994 K1100RS
1997 K1200RS
2014 K1600GT
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Overall: K75S
Power and handling: K1600GT

But I still really like the K1100s too.

It'd be nice to have a K75S turbo but it wouldn't work with the S fairing or belly pan.

Avatar photo is a 16v K100RS that I restored a few years ago and added a custom painted K1100 RS fairing to.  The paint scheme is a copy of the K100RS SE paint which is a blue and white.  It's not the bike I dropped, that is my red K75RT.

Wow both are cool bikes but that white and blue paint does something to me.  The K75 looks very functional as well. Awesome bikes!

Glad you got your beast running. Yup, sometimes the problem is staring you in the face. For all their innovation I can't believe the BMW jungens didn't bother putting gas gauges on all these "premium" bikes. Use your trip odometer to keep up on your fuel level. Just zero it when you fill up and keep an eye now and then.

Happy trails from snowy (and salty!!) Ontario. Here's hoping for an early Spring.
