Scenic loop from new home
« on: June 15, 2014, 09:22:20 PM »
Just bought a home in Eagar AZ for summers and eventually retirement.  I took the K bike and found a nice loop to do whenever the moods hits me. From Eagar I headed West on the 260 and turned South on the 261 to Big Lake. This is a very nice and twisty road that climbs a lot of elevation. Once the 261 ends I turned on to the 273 that was just recently paved (it was a dirt road for many years) I stopped at Crescent lake for pictures. Keeping on the 273 you enter the Apache Indian Reservation and went by Sunrise ski resort and lake. The 273 ends at the 260 and I turned East and returned to Eagar. Turning on to School Bus Rd. you can see the 26 Bar Ranch that was once owned by John Wayne. The Hopi Indian tribe now own   and operate it as a B and B so you can sleep in JW's bedroom.   I live just around the corner and did 60 miles. I'm also very close to Alpine and the Devil's highway, aka rt. 666, which I'll be doing a lot this summer. The End.
