R100RS to K100 Fairing Swap Questions
« on: January 10, 2019, 09:04:51 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have an 1985 K100RT without any of the fairing pieces that I would like to retrofit with possibly an R100RS or R100RT fairing.  I'm considering this because I need more wind protection and like the look of those older fairings. I currently have an aftermarket EMGO quarter fairing installed which looks ok and protects the instrument cluster.  Has anyone done this, and can tell me if the older fairings will work with an K100RT frame and gas tank.
As an aside, this is my first bike after over 30 years since last riding an '84 R65 and a '71 R60/5.   I love this K bike!  I did all the standard service items (THANK YOU Chris Harris for your videos) and to this forum for all the great input.
Thanks gang, you guys are great.

You can fit a lot of different fairing to Bricks it is just a matter of working out the bracketing. Twenty years ago I looked at a K75 with an R100 fairing. Easiest way is to pull up alongside a bike with the fairing you want. Then measure and compare, take heaps of photos and measurements.

Thanks for the reply Martin.  My biggest concern is probably the width of the K100 tank versus an R100.  I was worried the K tank might be too wide to accommodate an R100 fairing. I figure the bracketry can always be altered, not so the tank.
Thanks.

The only way to find out is find one and measure it. Most owners and motorcycle shops will let you measure if approached in the correct manner.

Here is an example of an Ongar fairing, an R100 fairing modified to fit onto a K75 or K100.

I don't believe the R100 RT fairing actually touches the tank like the K100RT, so shouldn't be a problem.
