3580+ miles in less than 72 hours... July 25th 2013
« on: June 23, 2013, 06:27:48 PM »

Come ride with me and show your support for Wrenching Wenches Motorcycle Network!

The forum that I'm building is http://wrenchingwenches.com/

For the past 12 months plus I have been planning and preparing for an Iron Butt ride attempt coming up next month.

The ride is called Sunset to Sunrise Insanity and only 19 men have completed it. To date, no woman has finished this ride.

I plan to be the first.

I will need to ride 3580+ miles in less than 72 hours.

If I complete the ride East to West, I'll be the first woman to do that however, if I complete it WEST to EAST I'll be the first person ever.

You can follow me live via my Spot Tracker Share Page starting on July 25th 2013.

http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0DGrKKkZTD75oNoJ2XbxrNNMXXaW0Rvqz

I have spent hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours wrenching, building, modifying, fabricating and tweaking my 1994 K1100RS.

I wish to recognize my husband and thank him for all his help, tolerance and patience with what has seemed like a never ending project. As of today, it's 95% finished and will be ready to ride in time. I could not have done it with him by my side.

July 25th Leave home
July 27th Arrive in Eastport, ME
July 28th Hangout with friends
July 29th Depart on Sunrise to Sunset Insanity
Aug 1st Arrive in La Push, WA
Aug 1st through 4th Hangout with Duck on Marrowstone Island
Aug 5th Ride to Fork, WA, there to spend the night
Aug 6th Depart on Sunset to Sunrise Insanity
Aug 9th Arrive in Eastport, ME
Aug 10 Ride home

Please help fund the site and support all the female riders out there who want to learn how to work on their own machines.

Palpal support for the site here.

Thank you and may you always ride with joy,

Shogs

Edit: Just did the math  WOW you have to average 53.5 MPH to beat that!

Yes, the SPOT Tracker link is in the first post but nothing is there until I turn it on when I depart from home on the 25th.

This is from 2011 on my IBA 50CC ride.
http://www.ironbutt.com/rides/50cc.htm

I have to avg. more than that so that I have time to sleep.

To make it more interesting, I hope to pull off this IBA ride >>>Saddle Sore 2000 Gold – 2,000 miles in under 36 hours. <<<
On the East to West run.

And this ride >>> Bun Burner 3000 GOLD <<<
http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=9
On the West to East run.

Heightened expectations on an extended ride like this worry me. If the ride is problem free and Mother Nature cooperates then you'll certainly have time for necessary rest, and you'll have a great ride. However if any issues arise, whether mechanical or weather related, I hope your drive to reach the goal does not impair your judgement to do what is safe.

Trying to make-up unplanned lost time can be disastrous. It might make sense to set realistic daily goals and if those aren't reached... there's always next year.

Good luck!

I'll just mark this under the classification "You don't know me, or how I ride or what's important to me or what I've been through to".

I'll let others speak for me.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. - Jim Rohn

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals. - Henry David Thoreau

You need to overcome the tug of people against you as you reach for high goals. - George S. Patton

I wish you a successful ride.

When I read your posts I was thinking about a cross country ride I did last year. I had planned to slab it from NY to WA at a reasonable pace in about four or five days. Had a mechanical problem that grounded me for a day in CT, and then ran into the mother of all lightning storms in SD. Intent on not falling behind, I rode through the storm which was totally stupid but I fortunately came out white-knuckled and unscathed.

About 300 miles from home after 16 hours of riding on day#3 I should have stopped for the night, but a voice told me to push on. I remember dreaming up all kinds of justifications for continuing on while I watched the white stripes and dark fields zoom by. A little later I started to hallucinate and reluctantly pulled over and fell asleep leaning against a fence post at 3am. In retrospect I feel that if I had continued even a few more miles I would have become a twisted mess of bones on the roadside.

In my case nobody cared how fast I got home besides me.
In your case you'll have followers routing you on and a immovable deadline in the back of your mind.

Ride safe. See you at MotoDungee!

Was going to ask if you had done other IBA rides, but obviously you have so cool.  I have seen too many people bite off way more than they can chew on a first ride "It can't be that hard" .. yeah, think again pal. This ride requires 50mph total average which is easily doable if you plan correctly. Good luck, have fun, be safe!  You gots PLENTY o' time.  :yes

FYI, you may not want to leave the Garmin photo up, the IBA frowns on speeding to meet a certification - "The Iron Butt Association is dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle endurance riding."  They really need to rethink the "endurance" word as well with the litigious nature of the world currently. I know almost all of us push the limit a bit, but it is best not to advertise it.

I'm here at Millikin House B&B.
I don't have cell service, text service or 3G.

I'm using the B&B computer to log on.

The number here is 207-853-2955.

I'll be here the rest of the day and night. I'll be getting up at 03:00 and at Bat City Garage at 05:00 to start the ride.

She has a BBG - 1500 miles in 24 hours and a SSG - 2000 miles in 36 hours so far - she should be able to turn those into a BBG 3000 miles in 48 hours and a SS3000 miles in 3 days at the rate she is going.
