Just sayin hi. Managed to complete the entry exam that is the registration procedure! :)
Just bought a '91 K100LT with what seems like a genuine 20k on the clock. Hoping the lack of mileage isn't gonna throw up issues, but for the last few years at least it has been doing 1-2k per year based on MOT history. Front brakes sticking at the mo so gonna give them a service, as well as the rest of the bike, and hopefully get it MOT'd and on the road soon in time for putting some miles on it this summer!

Have cleaned the calipers up already so will do a bleed next and then maybe a m/c rebuild if still sticking.

First thing I would do is to disconnect a line at the caliper. Try the brake and see if any shit comes out of the banjo fitting. That would indicate a decomposing brake hose lining. I bought a bike last year that had several years of very light use that had the same problem with sticking front brakes. Replacing the lines with stainless cured the problem.
Fortunately, the banjo fitting does a pretty good job of acting as a filter to keep the shit out of the caliper.

My best guess at the moment is that something is blocking the m/c return hole for the brake fluid - I was thinking it would be swollen seals but based on your pics it could easily be a lump of that crud!
Basically, the brakes are fine when cold, but as I ride and the fluid warms up, the lever gets 'tighter' - i.e. the free movement before the bite point reduces - until the lever is very firm, implying that the fluid (probably contaminated with loads of water) is expanding and isn't able to return to the m/c. This is also in line with what I found when cleaning the calipers - I just could not push the pistons back in by hand without cracking the bleed nipple, so even when cold, the brake fluid isn't returning to the m/c.
Guess I'll be doing the lot for safety - m/c, lines and fluid. The caliper pistons were actually surprisingly free moving.
