My obligatory intro
« on: October 23, 2022, 05:01:24 PM »
I've arrived, mainly to pick brains and seek inspiration. Been riding off and on for 50 years. Owned all sorts of bikes, newer and classic, done a bunch of reno and resto work on them. My favorites have always been airheads, but in a weak moment I sold my last one, a 76 R75/6, a couple years ago. I've always been intrigued my classic flying bricks, especially the K100RS. I looked at a K1100RS but it needed alot so I passed on it. But I looked at an 85 R100RS today and I'm seriously considering it. My choices are between a 96 Triumph Trophy, the R100RS, or the ubiquitous Kawi Concours. Mulling over my choices, and if I go with the RS I'll be here alot, picking brains and looking for advice.

Welcome. If you get a brick you’ve come to the right place. I’m currently brickless but have owned a k75s and a k1100Lt. Agree that the k75 engines are smooth as butter and had plenty of power (for me). I could never get the wind buffeting sorted. Went longer, shorter, etc. The 11lt solved the buffeting, but couldn’t get the heat the engine threw  off sorted, even with a “Johnny blanket” . I currently ride a R1100rt, and with the adjustable windscreen and different engine it solves both issues for me. Definitely not as smooth as a 75, but really not that bad. I am still looking for another 75, but a naked I can put a taller screen on. In the meantime I just bought a local non running R80st, to keep me busy. Good luck with your search. My advice would be to take your time, there are plenty of good ones out there and one will come your way.

Looks like I'm the intrepid owner of a 1986 K100RS. It'll need some fettling and sorting but it should be a fun project for the winter. Looking forward to bringing it home and peppering the forum with questions!

Looks nice.  The fairing looks to have been tweaked to get rid of the big mirror/turnsignals.

The Luftmiester is a bit louder than stock.  People will know you're coming.

Yes, he did the mirror delete and had the holes in the fairing filled. Amongst the extra parts, the owner had just removed the lower fairings so they are included along with the side panels, fork brace, tragkorbs with liners, and tank bag with straps (good thing since my tank bag is magnetic). I think the only things missing are the fairing filler pieces, and the tail/mudflap, which he claims was not there when he bought it in '87. He also has a brand new rear brake reservoir since he said the old one was cracked during a move.

I'm planning to restore it to stock appearance as much as possible. I'll sort out what else it needs when I get it home.

Not all Luftmeister exhausts are loud. I have one on my K100 and it isn't loud at all.

My K75 Lufty turbo isn't loud either.

(I'm not a fan of loud exhausts.)
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

I deleted thr rear front fender on my K75S. It looked much nicer, but I reinstalled it after one ride in the rain.

I'm planning to restore it to stock appearance as much as possible.
The fuel tank cap is on backward. It's designed to open from the front and also designed to shed water that would accumulate around the cap by means of a pipe that is connected to a port in the cap flange and runs through the tank then connects to a pipe exiting beneath the tank. The water dumps into a collector that has a hose attached to it, or dumps directly into a hose that is routed to empty behind the right foot peg plate.
