This looks like a well cared for  94 K1100 RS, in a very nice color. IMO, priced pretty attractively.

The major caution in buying this moto is that it has been serviced at least twice by BMW technicians but the fuel tank cap still wasn't reoriented so water would drain away from around the fuel tank's opening rather than infiltrate the fuel within the tank.  177381

I think that is what caused most of the problems with mine and was the cause of my tank innards being such a mess.

Can anyone say why the fuel tank filler cap is so often put on backwards?

When I bough my bike in Germany (in 1996) I was the second owner, the first owner must have spun it around for some reason. I did not realize until I brought it into the BMW workshop in Toronto after getting it off the boat for making "Canadian spec" and they pointed it out.

Weird.

Thanks! and sorry, back to your regular programming.

There's probably people like me who feel the right way seems backwards. When you open stuff, say your toolbox, you open the lid away from yourself for easy access. I fought the urge to spin mine around, I've got used to it now.

I think people want to flip the cap away from them.  The way the cap is supposed to open feels awkward when a right handed person tries to fill the tank from the side stand side of the bike.   However, if you use a tank bag, the zippers lead you to flip the tank bag back onto the front of the seat.  With it in that position, the way the tank opens makes sense.

It's no big deal to reverse the tank opening.  Just cut a notch in the cap's flange so water can get to the drain hole.  Heck, as long as you don't reverse the gasket under the filler cap, I am pretty sure the water will find it's way to the drain.

Correct Gryph.  It can also be drilled to work. I much prefer the cap reversed for running the BMW OEM tank bag.

Nope, I want it to be the way the Bavarian Engineers designed it. Even if it requires a bit of an awkward reach around.
