Red triangle light

Stays on, never used to. Why’s this? Someone said it was a bulb check light?
All the bulbs are fine. It dosnt go off if I hit both brakes, either.
Any suggestions on why, please.

Haynes (p.219): for UK models the warning light remaining on when the lights are turned off means the fault is in the brake light circuit.

Thanks. All bulbs are fine. Brake light dosnt come on if handlebar lever is depressed, but does when footbrake is pressed. Could it be the switch on the lever?

Very likely. The warning light is testing the brake switches as well as the bulbs. You might be able to disassemble the front brake switch to test/clean it. Cannot hurt to check wiring continuity and bulb monitoring unit connections.

Both brake switches need to work to extinguish the light.

I re-read your message. The foot brake switch is the more likely suspect, although the UK version is slightly different that the North American so who knows? It's a gritty neighbourhood around the rear brake pedal so I'd begin cleaning there. As Gryph said, BOTH switches have to work in order that the warning light goes off.

The brake switches are not interchangeable but each connects to the harness by means of a 2-prong plug. Suggest you decouple these, apply multimeter probes to the switch side of the plug and check for continuity when the the brake is applied.

As long as I've owned my K, the bulb monitor light has turned on and off at all kinds of random moments. But I have never observed a problem with my brake light function.

For years I've been telling myself to just pull the bulb the next time I have the breadbox opened up.

Check the rear brake switch first.  As mentioned earlier it's in a rough operating environment.  The activating linkage can get road crap in it, messing with the action, not to mention corrosion on the connections.

I had a problem with the rear brake switch on my K100.  It is just a standard industrial micro-switch, and I bought a replacement from Radio Shack for something like $2.

Hi All. Rear brake lights working. I’m guessing the front switch has had it.I will test it tomorrow when I have a little time to myself.
