UK fuel shortage
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:07:02 PM »
Re: The current fuel shortage in the UK, this is my favorite part of the story:

"Francis Maude, the Cabinet Office minister who suggested earlier in the week that motorists should stockpile fuel in “jerry cans” *faced calls to resign* after a 46-year-old woman suffered 40 per cent burns when petrol ignited as she was pouring it into a container."

This is why their Empire died: holding other people responsible for the actions of idiots.
Not only was that moron transferring fuel in her kitchen, but she was doing it *while cooking dinner.*

Why would a cabinet official tall people to stockpile fuel?  Aside from the obvious fire hazard, telling people to stockpile anything only makes a shortage worse....
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

It don't matter if they are Pommies, Americans Auzzies or Chinese what we are dealing with here is a very common problem. We should never forget that by definition 50% of the people are below average inteligence and 1/2 of them are below the 25% mark. I hold little hope for mankind.
As for a pollie that would say to stockpile well a politian is one of the few jobs nowdays that does nor need any qualifications, not even a two day course at the local community school.

It has been the most crazy week over here. So, the unions say there may (or may not) be a fuel tankers strike. Legally there has to be a weeks notice of a strike. So what do the mass British public do? You got it - go and fill their tanks and fuel cans as soon as they can. And our Prime Minister confirms everyone should top up and maybe store some fuel in the house? What a load of Lemmings we are over here sometimes - with absolutely no need to do anything whatsoever we end up with closed fuel stations and people running around at all hours (burning more fuel) trying to find some.

Anyway, the real result (and possibly was the plan anyway) was a hike in prices up to £1.50 a litre which has given the govt an end of fiscal year windfall of over £400m in tax revenue.
