Longer rear brake hose routing options?
« on: February 04, 2020, 08:15:50 PM »
For a 1985 K100RT, the flexible brake line coming out of the rear master cylinder has a new part replacement that is 95mm (3.74 inches) longer than the original. Would you please help me with routing options?

Original part number:34 32 1 450 555    BRAKE HOSE - L=275MM (to 12/91)
Replacement part number:34 32 2 310 962    BRAKE HOSE - L=370MM (from 12/91)
This is from Max's page: http://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51754&rnd=07242017

As I was rebuilding the rear master cylinder, I thought I had the wrong part number, since the replacement was so much longer than the original. My old one wasn't leaking. I just thought it would be smart to replace a 34 year old brake line. :-o

I'm concerned about ground clearance for this extra length.

I think you might discover that if you measure from the rear master cylinder's outlet to the caliper's inlet, the distance will easily be spanned by the new hose's length without excessive contortion. The new hose will be attached to the master cylinder, run through the grommet—with some effort—that attaches to the swing arm then attached to the caliper and all will be right with the world. The metal pipe length seemss to have been eliminated in 12/91 after the new hose length was adopted.

Measure it and determine if that's the case. Let us know

Is this, possibly, so that you can relocate the reservoir out of the sunlight to stop it breaking down from UV?

This is the high pressure line rather than the supply line from the reservoir. I think he's likely to determine the new hose replaces the old rubber hose/metal line combination to the caliper.
