Title: Distinguished Gentleman's Ride - Des Moines
Post by: frankenwing on September 26, 2016, 11:51:36 AM
Had a great turn out this year for DGR in Des Moines. My wife road on the back with me this year (since I now have a K bike and we can ride 2-up, normally she'd take the GB500) so she got to take lots of great pics.

The first few pics are of us on my K75, obviously not taking by her lol. The rest are her shots. Anyone else go?

Way to show for DGR! I represented K's here in Asheville, NC, with my '85 K-100RS sidecar. We ended up at a brewery, too. Only a half-dozen BMW's out of 113 riders. Good cause...We should all get behind it next year.

I love the sidecar! One of these days I'm gonna have to do a sidecar bike. We have a year-old italian mastiff pup and I know my wife would love to bring him on trips haha.

I group up in sidecars so I have a particular fondness of them. Growing up my dad built up a 77' GL1000 turbo with a hannigan sidecar. He made the sidecar longer, added a back seat and air scoops. So me, my 2 brothers, and mom and dad would travel all over the country in it.

Those are some fantastic designs! Looks like dual front stabilizers on the first one? Must have been a warm ride in that enclosed cockpit. And the windshield on the bike is radical! Whatever happened to these rigs? Thanks for sharing. :2thumbup:

That fairing is called Superwedge by Jacwal. Pretty rare one too. The one in black and white was before my time. That was my older brother in that photo. The black one attached to the boss hoss is the same one as the red one with the goldwing. Just much later on in life. He ended up selling the goldwing and sidecar probably a decade ago. I did however find the current owner of the goldwing, still with the turbo on it. And he's saving it for me when he dies! Crazy.

He's been doing some other pretty crazy side cars ever since then. I'll find some pics and share them...

Heres a few fun ones:

1st is is current project. Thats a buick v6 in the back of the side car, powering the rear wheel of the "bike" and the side wheel on the sidecar.

2nd is another one built from the ground up, mounted to a triumph rocket.

3rd is just another one of this boss hoss builds.

The DGR sounds pretty cool. Some beautiful bikes! Frankenwing, you are one talented dude! Is the DGR a nation-wide event? Fundraiser?
