Title: Odyssey PC680 Battery Equivalent
Post by: Eccl.12vs13 on November 07, 2018, 05:47:51 PM
Hello everyone: Still in the process of my K-100 cafe build; gathering parts, information and ideas. Once I'm in the final stages, which for me will be painting, I'll start to post all of the pics I have from beginning to end. That way, if anyone is following, they won't have to wait long for updates. (I'm the guy that hates watching a TV series when they first come on....I can't stand waiting an entire week for the next episode, so I tape the whole series and binge watch the entire thing.)

I have now moved on to relocating my battery to the rear cowl and deciding on a battery. I'm not going the lithium route (Too many unknowns as far as charging and other issues still seem to plague these little gems.) So I've decided to go the AGM maintenance-free battery route instead. And the go to battery here seems to be the Odyssey PC680.

There are a few sites that allow you to choose batteries by size, CCA and AHC.

So here are my 2 questions:

1) The PC 680 is only rated at 170 CCA and 16 AHC; is that enough to crank and sustain the K100 without any other accessories other than the normal headlight, turn signals and speedo?

2) If I find a battery with the same specifications as the PC680; CCA (170) and AHC (16), will the size of the battery matter?

For some reason I thought the K100 needed something like 300 CCA and about 20 AHC. If I can get by with just the 170 CCA, 16 AHC and no size limitations, that really opens up a lot of choices of batteries to select.

Any info provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ray V.

Pc680 more than enough.  I have one in my CAR that has a high compression 2.3l engine.

For replacement, suggest batterymart.com.  ETX-14 AGM.

There are many other good options though from Westco, Braille, interstate, etc.

Thanks. So the size of the battery is not an issue. Just as long as it has at least 170 CCA and 16 AHC I should be fine. Thanks again.

The advantage of the Braille battery is you can read the label in the dark once you learn the alphabet. Remove your gloves.

If you're intending to putter around on a stripped cafe racer, what you've chosen will work. The size of the package delivering sufficient output and capacity doesn't matter. You should disconnect the negative battery cable from the transmission or connect the battery to a trickle charger if you aren't posing with it out in the public on a daily basis.

Check the condition of the moto's alternator.

Thanks Johnny! I'm really liking everything about the Duration 20LBS AGM Powersport Battery. Good cranking power in a compact size AND the price point is great! Will be going to Farm and Fleet when I get the chance.

Thanks for the info,
Ray V.
