Word of warning
« on: May 12, 2012, 04:53:01 AM »
Came home the other day after 40 miles on the motorway took my exit and tried to slow for the traffic lights at the roundabout doing about 50.
Pulled the clutch in ko clutch. Que an oh sh.t moment banged it down the gearbox and found neutral coasted into a side road.
Once heart had returned to normal levels started checking clutch cable adjuster ect clutch movement ect all seemed fine
Checked the adjuster arm all seemed fine got on the floor and checked the bolt and lock nut that goes into the rubber gaitor that adjusts the clutch action. This had worked loose and was hanging on by about 1/2 a turn.
Out tool kit bolt retightend clutch adjusted off we went. Could of done without it. I now check it before every ride. People may just want to check theirs for peace of mind wasnt a good feeling. The clutch had worked fine before I got onto the motorway as I haf stopped for fuel.

That's why you should make sure the locknut is TIGHT when adjusting the clutch.  That's why they call it a locknut. I've never had one come loose.
Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.

Thats the thing the lock nut was checked after the clutch was sorted and i had a fully working clutch 40miles before as I pulled into and out of the garage for fuel. No signs this was going to happen still not sure why it did have done about 2000miles in 5 weeks.and the bike is so smooth even with 193 700 on the clock puts my old 1200 gsa to shame. I just wanted to warn and remind people so they avoid that oh sh.t moment.

One other thing i have noticed is all the gears are really smooth and go in sweetly except 2nd if I accelerate hard goes in with a bit of a clunk all others are fine just first to second changing up only. Odd.

I lost mine in Inyokern, CA. Noticed gear oil leaking at a fuel stop. Found a 7mmx1 bolt that fit in the 8mmx1 hole, that was enough to keep the oil from leaking. The clutch was fine without the adjust-ability, at least for me. I keep my adjuster all the way out for the most part.

Blue Locktite works wonders for those nuts that refuse to stay tight due to "Gremlins" or whatever. Glad you got it stopped without anything more than a little blood pressure spike.
