fuel filter change

How often do you guys change fuel filter on K bikes and where do you buy them?  thanks

Napa Gold 3032 every 38,000 km, if I remember to.

Ditto on NAPA 3032.

Every year or two. Sometimes before taking a long tour.

Note that's it's fairly easy to test a fuel filter. Just run the tank low, take out the fuel filter and try to blow through it in the direction of the arrow. You should be able to blow through it fairly easily.

Note that if a bike sits for an extended period the fibers in the fuel filter can swell so if reviving an old bike it's a good idea to replace it or do a test blow through it.

One bad tank of gas can plug a fuel filter.  Mine started gagging at 70mph, then 60, then 50.....

Don't use the hose that comes with the filter!  It's not for use in the tank.

while you are at it, you might also get yourself a fuel pump screen.  They tend to go bad over time, but they are pretty cheap and since you'll already be in the tank its worth swapping it out.  Beats having your $$$$ bosch pump break from sucking up some tank junk or pieces of a deteriorating screen.  There are 2 different screen types, make sure get the right one for your bike. My K75 had a cylindrical screen, and my k1100 has a bag type screen.  Theres a couple plastic clips on the tan retainer holding your fuel pump into the bottom of your tank that you need to depress to get the pump out.

There's actually there different pre-screens for K bikes. There's also a round one but without a hose attachment that was used on K100s built prior to May 85.

I honestly just get em on amazon or ebay when I need em.  Identify your prescreen shape before you order....you can often find a filter and prescreen set together.

Frankenduck - thanks for the tip about a fuel filter going bad by just sitting . My rarely used 75S started running poorly and pulled the old filter out with little mileage on it and could barely blow thru it. New filter and bike runs much better. Would never have thought of it. Thanks again.
