Ugly steering nut replacement options?

I'm looking to replace the ugly stock steering nut and bolt on my k1100rs. I've tried an m22x1 nut but it doesn't fit, leading me to conclude the proper thread pitch should be m22 x .75. Anyone know of any options? Also would love to swap out the stock fork caps for something prettier if anyone has any options there, especially something like a preload cap.

I'll see if I can measure the thread pitch on mine (probably Friday)...M22x.75 is REALLY fine threads.

M22x1.0 is considered "extra fine" while M22x1.5 is "fine" thread.

What are you wanting? Acorn style? Special wrench required?

I don't have a specific style in mind, just looking for something a little more refined than the stock steering nut/bolt situation. The thread seems finer than 1.5 pitch, so I went with a 1 pitch and got about 1.5 turns before it bound up. It might be 1.5 pitch, but I really have a feeling it's .75 since bmw has/had a hard-on for weird proprietary specs for almost everything.. would love to learn from someone w the ability to accurately measure  it

Maybe you could get one of these pitch gauges in millimeters or millimeter/SAE from AutoZone or NAPA. I bought one from MAC Tools for $10 a few decades ago when I was hired to help repair and build truck bodies. It has always been accurate.

There are kits that run into three figures that are even more accurate I guess. Maybe NAPA will loan you one at no charge.

My genius self forgot about the brake line running through everything, so I haven't removed the nut to use a thread pitch gauge. Nor have I been able to find any specs on it.

If you have ugly nuts then you should get a DNA test to find the origin.

Yeah, the k75 has that brake line splitter going through the triple. The k1100 doesn't do that tho.  I kinda prefer the k75 method, looks cleaner.

Just putting this info here for posterity. I finally got a thread pitch guage and the steering nut on my 93 k1100rs is a m22x0.75

Unfortunately this is not a size that is readily available anywhere and needs to be custom milled if it's to be made. Annoying.  I might try to find a 22mm round barstock and thread it myself, and/or try re-tapping an available m22 nut to .75 pitch

Yo. Check webshops for a stemnut by rebelmoto
They have both neat closed stemnuts and nuts with a starter button
I have the open one for the brake lines and used it to put a stemnut ram mount in it for my phone, also an option.

Yeah, I've seen the rebelmoto option.  I have a bit of a hard time spending $80 on a cosmetic nut/bolt after shipping. Now, if they also made pretty fork caps for k bikes like they do for r bikes, I'd probably have already made a purchase of both things and split that shipping fee up for more parts

I'll probably bite the bullet at some point and buy it tho since there are literally no other m22x.75 options out there. Closest thing I've found is a nut for firearms.
