New Find

Saw this K100RS for sale... supposedly ran up until the starter stopped working.  Asking a few questions and may go take a look at it this coming weekend.

Not quite as promising as I had thought... he sent me some additional pictures.  I like the front end and the paralever rear.  Nice tank.  No seat, no fairing.  He's been wrencing on it a bit.  He's asking $600 which seems high given the state of the bike.  Thoughts?

You can use its transmission and paralever drive on the red moto.  :laughing4-giggles:

Looks like a parts bike to me.... The Remus alone would be worth the 600.

Forget the motor though. Sitting outdoors under a tarp with the intakes exposed. Jeez.

I was thinking the same thing.  Although I'm bad when it comes to execution... it'll end up sitting in my garage taking up precious space.

Really?  Price is already down to $400.  Really too bad because it looks like it could be a great bike!

I'm probably the eternal optimist, but that bike has the potential to be a real heartbreaker.  It needs a complete frame up restoration, and I do mean frame up.

$400 is about $300 too high.  There's no telling how much it will take to make it reliably roadworthy.  As mentioned the intakes are a real mess, can't tell from the photo if there are a second set in the background still attached to the head.  The head has to come off just to see what is in there.

Those 16V RS's are sweet, but Filmcamera can testify to how much trouble they can be if they've been neglected.

What a mess and what a pity.  Unless you need a project that’s a rats nest I’d pass up for others with far less question marks.

That's where my minds at too.  Just so happens I stumbled across another one... this one is in great shape.  Not my choice of colors but looks great!

He's asking $1500.  Has about 70K miles on the clock.

If it runs as good as the photos, I'd say it's a steal.

He says it runs great.  He's about 2 hours away so will see if I can get up there one of these evenings.  May need to wait until the weekend.

You're absolutely right.  Could be a great project for someone but I'm not that person.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this bike.

The bike sold to someone else.  I tried a schedule a meeting with the seller Monday evening but the earliest I could get up there was 6pm (it's about a 2 hr drive).  He said he had someone coming at 5.
Asked if I was willing to "outbid" the other person.  I totally was but didn't want to get into a bidding war.  The more I thought about it the more I felt like it would have been a compulsive buy.  Still... it would have looked great in my garage!  44271

Maybe a K1 (my current drool-worthy bike - but I've got enough on the go for now)
