It’s all part of the lack of love for the k bikes in general perhaps.
Curious.
People who ride them and know them, love them.

This may only apply to classic Ks now. I have seen a big uptick in the number of Ks getting scooped for customization, and the price of donor bikes has more than doubled. It's not uncommon for fairly beat up 75s to go for near 3k, and 100s/1100s for another 500-1000 more... and they dont stay on the market for very long. Kind of a bummer that people are learning they make for cool cafes/scrambler because builders who love Ks already can't get em as easily as we used to. On the other hand, we do enjoy seeing new custom k builds(much to the chagrin of traditionalist k enthusiasts).

I suppose that doesn't help drive up the price of a well maintained oem model that is out of donor price range tho.  I expected this pretty example to fetch closer to 10k w the love that was poured into it, and with the reasonably low miles for a k.

I disagree, people scooped them up for cafe's because they were cheap but with their blocky engines, chunky gas tanks, complicated electronics and fuel injection they often were left with an unfinished hulk or a barely ridable ugly POS that winds up on marketplace or Craigs list. I always thought old Japanese twins made better Cafe candidates.

You aren't wrong  about how it used to be. Seems builders have discovered the Ks rather recently tho, at leasr in the US. I never saw another custom K ever when I first did one like 10 years ago in Los Angeles. Now im in Austin and I've seen 3 in the past year. I have also been keeping an eagle eye on fb marketplace and CL for Ks because I want to build up another one and the prices I see today are about 2x what they were 2-3 years ago. Yes, there are often Ks that novice builders attempted and got in over their heads, but they still sell for 2-3k when ypu used to get them for around d 1k.

They are def a bit harder to build, but they do seem to be getting more popular. I also see them more often than I used to on amateur cafe builders fb group as well.

I am sort of looking for a stock K75S, but it seems they are getting pretty rare in the price range I am looking in.  Seems the customizers have soaked up the available bikes; they are a lot harder to find now than they were even 5 years ago, especially in the northeast U.S.

Wish I had never sold my Dakar Yellow S.

Prices on used vehicles is whacked. What would have sold for $800 5 years ago is now $5K.  K’s got caught in the rising tide.
