Haha!! Glad I checked this post.
So from my experience there are a couple things to note about airbox delete:
- You can remove EVERYTHING from the airbox to the throttle body, including all breather hoses, and even that rubber hose on the back of the 4 throttle bodies can go.....EXCEPT THE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR...MORE ON THAT BELOW
- You will want to cap the ports on the back of those throttle bodies so they arent sucking in any unfiltered air. I used cheap rubber caps I found on amazon for mine
- I stuck a small pod filter on my crankcase breather opening.....this port is really just an emissions thing, as was the rubber hose it feeds into in the back of the throttle body.
-You dont need an oil separator. THe oil actually comes from that small hole at the top of the timing chain cover, not from your throttle bodies. Its the small hole right under the radiator(that metal fitting with 2 tubes coming out pulls right out, just tug). I just plugged that small hole with a silicone stopper because engines get hot and silicone can take it....again, emissions stuff is why this exists at all. If you dont plug the hole, you'll get engine oil all over the top of your engine block.
THen in order to get pods to work youll need to do the following:
-You will need to move the throttle cable on the throttle body out from the stock position...there is a supplier of these but IM having a hard time finding it. You can do without if you are planning on doing elbowed pods, but if you want straight up and down pods you'll need it. I'll keep looking....but you can probably do the mod yourself...I'll post pics when I get near my bike to show you. It consists of longer screws and some spacers which you can probably source on amazon, and I can get you the specs if you want em.
- You will need to adapt your choke cable to make room for the pods if you do straight up and down pods...in fact I had to dremel out 1 pod for the 90 degree elbow to fit too.
-You will need a bracket for the air temp sensor so your motronic can get good data for fuel mix.. I have a file I can provide that you can send to a water cutter shop(tons of em on etsy). LMK if you want that file, its set up to screw into the back of the throttle body so the temp sensor sits right between pods 3 and 4 and makes it pretty much invisible
-You will need to find pods that fit. the throttle bodies take 39mm pods. There are some options, but not a ton.
-DONT FORGET TO OIL YOUR PODS. buy a small tube of filter oil and look up how to oil your filters. THe oil is what traps debris, so you def want to use it.
Its not so hard TBH, but does require a little bit of modding your intake at the throttle body and routing cables a little differently. Just know that you will probably not pass emissions if you live in a place where you need to pass emissions since you are removing the parts that are meant to ensure no fuel goes unburnt.
If you are in the US feel free to shoot me a text and I can show you close up pics of what I did and answer questions, just LMK who you are 818.562.0831
