I've decided it's time to unload my highly upgraded K1100LT and get something that doesn't require such long legs and manhandling to keep straight.
It's a 1995 K1100LT, bought in Berlin, Germany in 2018, legally imported to the US in December of 2019, registered and titled in Massachusetts with the non-standard German VIN. Progressive bitched about that a bit but it was resolved. 88,000+ miles.
I've installed quite a few upgrades and have a cache of parts never installed.
- Custom and slightly lowered Wilbers shock absorber with ABS (
https://www.wilbers.de/shop/en/Motorcycle/BMW/K-1100-LT-BMW100/shock-absorber-type-630-Road-ABS1.html?year=1995). Costs about €629 new not including shipping and installation.
-
Much more comfortable Corbin seat. I hated the original one.
- Chiptuning custom tuning chip, removes the tuning down of the engine and restores the full 115 hp output, also improves fuel consumption and power curve. I still have the old chip as well.
- Brand new front and rear radial tires, 0 miles since installation.
- Custom LED fog lights and headlight/turn signal lights upgraded to LED's with modified blinker control.
- Original radio/cassette with a cassette adapter to plug in your iPod.
- Swapped speedo for UK model in miles, modified odometer to match. Bulbs upgraded to LEDs too.
- Poor man's friction cruise control install and handles modified, heated handles still work just fine.
- Factory windshield up/down control also works.
- Original travel luggage, as well as a custom-installed but easily removed lower profile rear travel case.
- Fluids changed regularly, engine, transmission and rear drive treated with Liqui-Moly MoS2.
- Paint is Navarra Violet, I've never seen another bike with the color and it turns heads, gets compliments everywhere.
- I also have a custom power cable that will power a Milwaukee heated jacket, VERY nice on cold days.
- Climers service manual (not very useful, but it goes with the bike), as well as German and English owner's manual in PDF.
- Full docs, receipts and German plates go with the bike.
You will have to bring your own plate if you want to drive away, I keep mine for my next bike. If you're a Marine like me you can keep the patches.
Probably missed a few details, we'll discuss if you come see it.
JD Power book value is between $5k and $6500. With all the upgrades I am looking for $7k. Some of the upgrades are not made anymore (like the tuning chip).
This is a bike for taller riders. I am 5'10" and I have to wear boots with larger soles. If you are shorter than me you will struggle to reach the ground. I bought it from a 73 yr old in Berlin who bought it sight unseen and was highly pissed when he found out his legs hung about a foot off the ground.
