castrol molub T or TA Paste

Hi all


quick question:


I have just bought a tube of Castrol Molub White Paste T, (formerly Optimol) to do all of the splines on the K1100....

now after researching I see people using T and others TA, What is the difference? Is the stuff I have ok to use?


Reading the spec sheet from castrol it definitely doesnt look like a moly lube

Confused here, Its a fairly indepth job and would like to use the right stuff.

This is not suitable for lubricating splines.  Its Composition based on the MSDS sheet is:
Highly refined mineral oil,
Lithium soap,
Solid lubricants,
Polyisobutylene and additives


There is not molybdenum sulphide in that list.


You need to select a product with at least 60% molybdenum sulphide, like Honda MOLYKOTE M-77 paste, Blackdog Moly or similar.

I am thinking exactly that......but...

loads of people seem to use it either T or TA

They are selling it for BMW splines

Its called MOLUB so the assumption is that it is Moly based

Its the rebranded Optimol that everyone used to swear by

I'm just confused its an assembly paste but people seem to use it

I wouldn't use anything that didn't have at least 60% molybdenum disulfide on the splines on MY bikes.  I don't care what the trademark implies, that's marketing.

Use what you like, they're your splines.

 I'm just looking for as much info as possible to make an educated decision. I have seem the Castrol molub mentioned on a lot of Bmw forums and bought it after reading that it seemed to be used by numerous people and seeing it specifically sold as such. It is even sold by the Bmw parts suppliers for the splines so thought that I had found the right stuff


I could use clotted cream on the splines on MY bike if I wanted but I appreciate the advice.

I will look out for something that specifically mentions at least 60% moly and assume that the people that use this stuff or Optimol in the past must be slightly deranged or have an inherent hatred of Bmw splines. :dunno2:
