Started out as a nice 25 mile ride with my son and his new Trek. Ended up riding to the Hospital in an ambulance. Wiped out on a 3 mile curvy downhill section of bike path, nothing broken but lots of bruising and abrasions. Wish I had my Schuberth instead of bike helmet but it probably kept things from being much worse. 14 years ago hit a deer on the BMW and broke my arm, I guess every decade and a half between get offs isn't bad.

Jeez we all hope you feel better soon!

I hope your recovery from this unfortunate encounter with gravity, physics, First Response and the medical-industrial complex is a rapid one, Chaos. I'm glad that you were geared up and are tough enough to an extent that allows you to keep contributing here. Thanks for the charming photo. :2thumbup: There are some stylish eye-patches out there. Don't miss this opportunity to make a fashion statement.
You've got over 5000 days now to raise two-wheeled hell—until the next event. That's something, anyway.

Hope you have a quick recovery. Dangerous things those bicycle contraptions.
Regards Martin.

Wow! THAT is a shiner!

Not pretty but could have been a lot worse. Which is why after 10 years of militant bicycling in Seattle I traded in the non-moto two-wheeler for the motobrick. Now, when I get on a bicycle I'm scared shitless.

We're lucky to have a great network of biking paths around here. This happened on a downhill stretch of a bike path at about 22mph. I try to avoid sharing roads with cages for obvious reasons.

My wife has pretty much cycled her whole life and the first twenty-five-odd years of that were in Seattle, so I know too well what you're talking about.
That was heaven compared to cycling around when we lived in Baltimore though (an opinion we both share).

And of course, we hope you heal up well, Chaos!
Just tell the ladies you got that magnificent shiner kicking up-country degens out of your local bar. I'm sure you could convince your son to back you up. ;)

Get well super soon. My wife just broke her hip in April from a bike crash training for Senior Nationals, and boy is she bummed out! I hope you're rolling again soon. ++ helmets, it kept my wife from becoming a turnip.

Looks like left front of helmet took the hit, liner caused abrasion on forehead, then helmet probably slid down and bruised the left eye. At first I was dismayed by how little the helmet protected, but thinking about it and the force it dissipated I probably would not be here typing this without it.

Like MC helmets, a lot depends on fitting the bike helmets properly and snug ... which tends to be less comfortable to ride with. Gone down hard in the 40+mph range racing, and thank goodness the helmet stays in place, totally useless for clavicles though. I've seen guys get really messed up from cheap sunglasses too. Heal quick!

YIKES!
Hope your eyesight is OK.
