Fuel injection cleaner in a K75
« on: July 10, 2022, 12:17:37 PM »
Hello guys. I just bought some “fuel injection cleaner” for my 1993 K75 because the previous owner recommended adding fuel injection cleaner occasionally. I was about to add it and noticed my Clymer manual says, “Do not add any lubricants, preservatives or additives to the gasoline as fuel system corrosion or clogging may result”. I hate to beat a dead horse on this because volumes have been written touting the benefits of numerous products (Techron, Berryman's B-12, Seafoam, Super Tech, Stabil, Marvel mystery oil, Mopar Top End Cleaner, STP to name a few). Just curious if I should heed an authority like Clymer and take it back or go ahead and use it.
Ps. It currently has 50K miles and runs like a top.

Despite the enthusiastic recommendations of knowledgeable, reliable Brickers here who are also Techron users, I say If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'd ignore a generic warning like that in a Clymer.

I've used Techron concentrate occasionally in all of my Ks for years and years and none of them have blown up. Others have as well without causing any problems.

In fact, a lot of gasolines that you buy at the pump have additives in them already like at Shell, Chevron and Texaco stations.  Not to mention our "friend" ethanol.

You can even buy BMW branded fuel additive at Max BMW:

Once I had a Collie pup. Dug a hole and covered him up. Now I sit there by the hour. Waiting for a Collie-flower.
