Since you have the original pin you can do what I did.
Get a 2-56x1/2" screw with a Phillips head and a flat washer.
Drill a hole in the cover that the screw will slide through and a hole in the original cover pin that you can screw the screw into. If you have the right size drill bit the screw will go into the pin without having to thread the pin. When the pin is almost screwed all the way, put a drop of Super glue in the gap and finish tightening the screw.
I've made this repair on 3 covers, and so far, none have failed. If anything, the repair is stronger than the original pin.
