Greetings from new member!
« on: May 05, 2020, 12:14:47 AM »
Hello all, been getting info from the site as a guest while I bid on an '86 k75c on ebay. Happily won the auction and been scouring for more information ever since. It's been a long time since I rode street bikes and it has been a long time since this bike was on the road. I think maybe we're saving each other. I'm 3rd owner of this bike in code 618 blue. only 23000 mi on it and it's complete. Seller said it was parked as running/riding bike in 1994. Its now parked in my dining room. Hoping to ride next summer. Thanks to the amazing hard-core guys who keep all this info together! Looking forward to getting to know some new people who appreciate these bikes.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I never thought much about where people park motorcycles as an indicator of current marital status...but its accurate Lol! The bike has light rust on the steel parts. I figure it has seen many cold nights so having it inside keeps it dry, keeps it handy, I can look at it whenever I want plus, it's near the kitchen where I happen to keep a sink that will be very handy! Working now on transferring title and registration and then I can get a new key from dealer. Appreciate very much all the links and sources posted. I'll post a few pics soon (I have to move a bookcase first)

Parked in the dining room and washing parts in the kitchen sink!!!  Almost 50 years since I could get away with that.

Hadn't thought of that yet! Hmm..in-house powder coating? Hit a hurdle today on the new keys. DMVs are still all closed and so is AAA for DMV stuff. DMV online "records" can't find my bike, so no title transfer/reg possible yet. Oof.

photo post test-
I've done really all I can do in this (work?)space. Not going to remove the tank in the house with gas still in it. Got it registered so was able to get a couple keys made by BMW. She's off to the real bike shop this weekend to be inspected and work out a restoration plan.

Congratulations on your purchase! I'm fairly certain some of us will be interested in reviewing the real bike shop's plan.

Hi Laitch! I was happy I was able to post a pic! Thanks to Johnny for the clear instructions or I never would have made it! Since the bike is stock and everything is there, the plan is to "make it run". They tell me if the fuel pump and starter are ok, "it will probably run". I know the front brakes don't work, the lever flops helplessly and the calipers don't calip. I know the tires are shot, the front discs look scary, the fork boots are cracked and I'm sure the forks need rebuild/seals, everything rubber needs to be replaced and everything plastic except body parts/fairing is suspect. I know what a running example would cost, but I really want to put another one back on the road so while money IS an object, I can make sure this is done right. So I still have much to learn about BMW bricks. But while I'm doing that...I LEARNED ALOT ABOUT SPDERS! Can they survive 130 miles at 65 MPH? Oh yes! Can they survive a vigorous and (I thought) thorough pressure washing? You bet. Can they colonize every inch of your house if you don't kill them with a long/fast freeway journey and high pressure water? Indeed! Do they come in micro sizes that make detection a matter of how the light shines at certain times of the day? Check! Most importantly, can you defeat them with a combination of cobweb remover (ultra slick surface treatment that won't let their webs stick) Swiffers and determination? The answer is..so far.

Release a family of geckos into the house. They'll take care of the spiders.
