Compatibility between '87 k100rs vs 88 k75s
« on: April 12, 2023, 06:58:33 PM »
Good day to All,

As I quickly discovered, spare body panels are quite rare to find for the k75. I discovered on line some body work for a '87 k100rs on sale and wonder if anyone can tell me if the side panel (battery) and headlight lens are interchangeable between these models?

thanks in advance

The headlight only suits the K75s in the K series but is fitted to other BMW models BMW R100GSPD, K75S and F650 FUNDURO F650ST.
Side covers interchangeable between  (K 75, K 75 C, K 75 S, K 75 RT)   (12/1984 — 11/1996).

The inner knee panels of a K100RS fairing will not be flush with a K75S gas tank. The K75S tank is differently shaped and slightly smaller than a K100RS tank.

Also K75 and K100 battery covers are different and attach differently.

If you want to do this "right" then you'll need a K100 gas tank and battery covers.

Not the K75RT. The K75RT has a K100 tank and uses K100 battery covers. K75 battery covers only fit the K75, K75C and K75S models.

So the lens fit directly in my existing frame and harness with no modifications?

The 75s headlight is a complete unit, the glass is not removable. Any of the posted alternative bikes headlights are directly interchangeable.
You can find interchangeable parts by going to Real OEM.com BMW parts, fill in the information applicable to your bike than find the part you require. When you have found the part for your bike clicking on the blue part number will reveal other compatible bikes.

The seller unfortunately checked his headlight after we agreed on a price and he discovered a small crack in the lens. He mentioned that its not visible as it hides under the fairing but I was told the crack has the potential to continue going with time. Kind of bumbed out now

keep your eyes open -- ebay often has fairing parts, windshields, headlights, etc. for sale by people who are converting their bikes to a more naked style or cafe style bike.

Most of the ones I've seen photos of are not to my liking, but to each is own. And that does give the rest of us the opportunity to keep ours more stock, as things break, etc.

Don't be. Retrofitting a K100RS fairing to a K75S is a bigger project than you think it is.
