What is inside the fuel pump?
« on: April 23, 2020, 04:49:02 AM »
Folks

The fuel pump on my cafe racer project was seized. I have ordered a new pump kit with all the bits in the tank but I was also curious what is inside the pump so I fully disassembled the old pump and took a few pictures. Most interestingly the internals of the motor are fully emerged in fuel with the fuel travelling through the pump to the exit tube - not through an internal tube to the exit tube.

Thanks for posting. I didn't even think of trying to energize my fuel pump from my K1100 with the gas that had been sitting for 10 years based on the looks of the other components, but I'm going to try to. The fuel pump is basically a canned pump and the fuel cools the motor by traveling between the rotor and stator.

What new kit did you go with?

I just used the Quantum Pump for my '03 CBR600RR. It was challenging swapping out just the pump, but I succeeded and saved $300. I opted for the EME I just changed on my K75 https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/product-p/fpk-231k1200.htm. Worked great.

The Quantum units seem solid. Bought one for my WR2-fiddy-R with regulator for around $60, the Yammy factory unit is $425!
